Google officially announced the July 2019 update to its Android stable and there is no doubt that it is one of the most awaited updates. This is Google’s effort to support the latest smartphones by the latest Android operating system. The latest version of Android is Android 9.0.0 that was released on the third of May 2019. The previous version was Android 8.0. The next update is Android 10.

Google’s July 2022 Android update, which will bring the Nougat operating system to Pixel and Pixel XL devices, has been delayed; Google will now release the update in “Q4” (so November), rather than “Q1” (so May), as it initially planned. The reason? The company says it needs more time to work on the update, which is in the testing phase, with a dedicated team and timely code fixes. Google has been working on the update since last November, and revealed the code name “Bunny” last July, after the company started accepting beta testers.

Google’s 2022 core algorithm update has already been fully rolled out. Any subsequent changes in ranking will likely be due to the usual evolution of search results.

The announcement was made this afternoon by Google SearchLiaison.

This generally means that the new search index has been fully implemented in all data centers and that search results should remain relatively stable.

Google rarely talks about what happens in a core algorithm update. However, Google said the core algorithm update is an update that makes changes to a variety of indexing and ranking processes.

The July 2022 update was preceded by two spam updates, which is unusual.

Earlier this year, Google announced that it was going to fight spam with a new anti-spam AI. So it’s not unreasonable to assume that Google has implemented more effective anti-spam features that allow it to do its job faster.

Less ccTLD clutter in search results?

Domain clutter occurs when the same domain appears repeatedly in the same search results.

In some search results, websites with multiple country code top level domains (CCTLDs), such as .uk, .tv, .ca, tended to dominate Google search results.

Lily Rae noted that Pinterest’s ccTLDs lost visibility after Google’s major algorithm update in July.

We’ve already noticed with some ecomm customers that product/category pages are taking the place of the space previously occupied by Pinterest.

Quality characteristics

In many Facebook groups, I see solid on-page and off-page SEO techniques paying off in the form of consistent rankings.

Stephen Kang (@SEOSignalsLab), founder of the popular Facebook group SEO Signals Lab, said he has seen minimal changes due to the recent updates and recommended avoiding things like low-quality links.

Stephen shared:

I don’t notice anything in particular. Very little variation, even for keywords with high search volume.

I have a ranked client with a monthly search volume of 300,000. He’s hovering between first and second place. Also for keywords over 10,000 words for other clients.

But on the other hand, I don’t do poor quality links.

Discussionon WebmasterWorld Update

Editors and SEO experts on the WebmasterWorld forum have suggested a few things that may have changed.  While these discussions can be unreliable, sometimes what people talk about is what happens.

Specifically, they are talking about the expansion of People Also Ask (PAA), a search refinement feature that aims to give users the answers they want.

Another interesting observation is the similarity between image ranking losses and ordinary organic search engine results pages (SERPs).

A forum member commented:

What I found interesting was that the loss in image search mirrored the loss in web search, despite the difference in weeks and different search engines.

Lower page rank in search results?

There is also unofficial evidence of a marked increase in spam in Google’s search results following the recent spam updates, which will persist until the core algorithm update in July 2022.

Although Google actively tries not to display substandard search results, questionable search results continue to appear on Google.

In Italy, Google results are bad, more than that, I would say catastrophic. On the first page, we find 3 page sites, no content, no authority, with 4 backlinks from well-known guest post sites. More than artificial intelligence, I would say artificial dementia.

Delete spam from search results

There are also spam pages that are created by scraping the Google snippets and rank high.

I was shown dozens of examples of websites copying snippets from Google and combining them with other websites to create new web pages and rank higher than the legitimate websites whose content had been copied.

Part of what helps these sites rank are links from quality sites that don’t seem to sell links (but maybe they do).

Many of these scraping sites did not exist until November 2022, others appeared in January 2022, and all had tens of thousands of pages of scraped content.

I have reviewed the information provided to me.

Here is some of what this person (who wishes to remain anonymous) shared with me:

Less than a year later, 50,000 indexed pages received MILLIONS of visitors from Google in just a few months after launch.

  • Refresh the page and the words change
  • Try star ratings, they’re wrong.
  • Most links to view the full answer open foreign pages in full screen IFrames.

Like I said, it’s pure spam, but honored by Google.

In fact, the owner has duplicated the site, and each option works equally well…. This spam site is able to rank for brand names, medical terms, and more.

The backlink profile is the cream of the crop and includes links from mainstream media, psychology sites and children’s sites run by trusted doctors.

I checked the backlinks, and the person who showed me those highly ranked scraper pages might be right that spam is encouraged by quality links.

What it means The sites did nothing wrong

According to Google, websites that have lost their ranking do not have to correct anything.

Most members of the research community consider this statement by Google to be controversial.

In fact, the research community likes to investigate sites that have lost their ranking to find and fix technical problems, as well as quality issues, such as outdated ads.

But these kinds of technical problems are not the cause of a website losing its ranking. So it seems that Google is planning to fix these problems if there is nothing to fix.

On the other hand, there are things that need to be fixed.

For example, after the Medic update, many websites lost their ranking for health and medical-related searches. The reason for this loss in ranking is that Google’s algorithm has started to associate medical searches with scientifically proven answers. Alternative treatment sites like Oz have lost traffic due to this change.

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with alternative medicine sites. They simply did not meet the user intent inherent in medical research searches that require proven, rather than speculative, treatments.

Usually, the loss of rankings or traffic is considered a sign that a website has done something wrong. But this is not always the case.

The research industry needs to broaden its approach to the evolution of ranking by looking beyond the site of interest to find clues.

Display search results to understand ranking changes

Search professionals need to analyze the search results to get a full picture of what has changed and why it affected the sites that lost their positions.

Google updates often change the way Google understands the meaning of search queries and/or web pages (e.g., BERT). This can lead to different websites appearing that conform to the algorithms’ new understanding of what a user is looking for when they perform a particular search.

  • Some sites lose positions, not because they’ve done anything wrong, but because the algorithm’s assessment of relevance has changed.
  • In other cases, for example, Google may introduce features to refine search queries. B. People Also Ask (PAA), which can move a web page from the second position to the virtual fifth position (even though it technically remains at position 2).
  • However, People Also Ask (PAA) may also mean that another page that appears under PAA receives more traffic because it is more relevant to the user making a particular request, and thus receives traffic for a request that it might not otherwise have received.
  • A site covered by the AAP has done nothing wrong, nor has a site at the top that could theoretically lose traffic to any of the sites in the AAP query refinement.
  • Google may also introduce more FAQ results, which may affect the site’s visibility in search results (positively or negatively).

These are just a few examples of how external factors can have a negative impact on a website’s ranking.

The idea that sites lose positions because they did something wrong is a form of analysis or an outdated concept for what happened in the update.

So if your website has experienced a negative change in search engine rankings, it’s a good idea to look outside the website first to try and understand what may have changed, and then go back to your website to see if there are any results.
