The best free SSL certificate is not necessarily the best choice for a business. You have to consider the situation when you will be buying the SSL certificate: if you are buying the SSL certificate for the business domain and the business domain is not important for the website, you can use a free SSL certificate. If the domain is important, you have to consider the situation when you will be buying the SSL certificate: the free SSL certificate is not valid for the business domain, the business domain is not important for the website, and there are no other options.

There’s a number of free SSL certificates around, but of them all, who has the best? In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the best free SSL certificate, and even tell you where you can get it. This SSL certificate is from a well-known company called Cloudflare, and since they have been around for a while, we’re sure they’re the best.

If you are looking for a top-notch SSL certificate to protect your online data and website, then you should definitely consider the one from the Certicom Corporation. They provide free SSL certificates for websites. Their SSL certificate is perfect for protecting your website against cyber criminals.

An SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate is required to keep the information on your website confidential. This will also let Google know that your website is safe and secure.

This is very important. Some hosting providers, such as. B. Bluehost, offers a free SSL certificate upon registration.

And if you can’t handle a digital certificate yourself, I’ll show you how to get as many free SSL certificates as you need.

Don’t put it off. You can get it in a few minutes.

Why?

If you don’t have an SSL certificate, major browsers like Chrome and Safari warn users that your site may not be secure:

I can’t think of a better way to scare people.

Would you click?

What about free SSL certificates? It’s best to get them and let every potential visitor know that your site is safe and secure.

After purchasing an SSL Certificate, users can log into your website from any device and know that the information sent, such as domain names, is protected. For example, log-in data or credit card numbers remain confidential.

SSL is like sending a message in a sealed envelope instead of an open note.

Of course this is more of a technical question, but the simple truth is this: If you have a website, you need an SSL certificate.

Instead of an aggressive warning, people see a blocked logo next to your web address:

Ahhh. That’s much better.

Okay, let’s get you ready.

Here’s my list of four free SSL certificate options you should check out. The evaluations are followed by a concise buyer’s guide outlining the key points to consider when making a decision.

A word of warning: There are many other options for free SSL certificates. BUT they are not always free or have annoying restrictions on the number of certificates you can get. Don’t waste your time – these are the best free SSL certificates you can get.

#1 – Review of Bluehost – the best web hosting with freeSSL certificate

For :

  • Free SSL certificate included with hosting
  • Incredibly easy to start and develop
  • Free protection for an unlimited number of subdomains

Disadvantages:

  • You still have to pay for the accommodation
  • Additional SSL certificates are not free (but that doesn’t matter).

Bluehost is one of the most affordable web hosting services. It is a reputable and reliable company that offers many benefits to its customers.

Bluehost, for example, offers a free SSL certificate when you sign up for a hosting plan.

You also get a free domain name for the first year, making it an ideal all-in-one package for those looking to create their first online website. Domains usually cost $10 to $15 per year, which helps keep costs down.

You will still have to pay for the accommodation, but you will have to do it anyway. Why not choose a host that offers free SSL?

I recommend shared hosting plans because they have the best price and make SSL security as easy as possible. You are limited to one generic SSL certificate per hosting account, but that may be all you need.

In fact, Bluehost’s free SSL certificate covers all domains and sub-domains you park. Oh, wow.

Normally, you will have to pay for a generic SSL certificate for all your subdomains such as www.neilpatel.com, www.mail.neilpatel.com, etc. Placeholders can be expensive, but with Bluehost shared hosting, you don’t have to worry about that.

It also includes parked domains, which are essentially websites that link to your main site. I can’t. B. www.neilpatelmarketing.com purchases and transfers to www.neilpatel.com.

I may need it for future development or to make sure no one else uses my name. Whatever the reason, parked domain protection is not free when you use Bluehost shared hosting.

With VPS and dedicated hosting, you have more control over the number of SSL certificates you can use. If you need it, you get it, but with adaptability comes more responsibility. This is much less practical than general plans.

Plus, you can take advantage of an exclusive offer on Bluehost shared hosting because you are a reader of my blog:

Besides the phenomenal prices, Bluehost makes it very easy to install and renew SSL certificates on your website.

Bluehost uses Let’s Encrypt as its certificate authority, but most of the technical work is not your responsibility.

Instead of setting up an automatic monitoring and updating process on your server, just click a button. It’s pretty sneaky.

Below is an example where a free SSL certificate for a WordPress site was activated with one click. Just activate it and Bluehost will take care of the rest.

So it’s no surprise that Bluehost is one of the most popular ways for people with WordPress websites and blogs to protect their visitors’ personal information.

It is just as easy to renew the certificate. Make sure AutoSSL is enabled. If you have a shared hosting plan with free SSL enabled, AutoSSL is already running.

I highly recommend Bluehost if you don’t have a web host yet. It takes care of hosting, domain and SSL all at once.

If you already have a web host, they should be able to help you install SSL certificates, since it’s probably not as simple as Bluehost.

And if your host’s customer support doesn’t help, it’s time to jump ship. SSL encryption is essential for any website, and there is no point in staying on the site if the service does not have such an important element.

Sign up with Bluehost today. Get a great deal and protect yourself with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

#2 – Let’s Encrypt Review – The best source for freeSSL Certificates

For :

  • Almost unlimited number of free SSL-certificates
  • Free wildcard and SAN certificates available

Disadvantages:

  • Some technical knowledge is required for installation
  • It is recommended that the certificate be renewed every 60 days.

Let’s Encrypt is a well-known certificate authority managed by the Internet Security Research Group, a non-profit organization. Their mission is to provide a more secure and privacy-friendly web.

It does this by offering free SSL certificates that are easy to renew and simple to manage. You can use it for any server that uses a domain name, for example. For example, for a web server, an FTP server or a mail server.

The speed limits for creating SSL certificates at Let’s Encrypt are quite high:

  • 50 euro per registered domain per week
  • 100 subdomains per certificate

That’s enough to issue certificates for 5,000 unique subdomains each week. The vast majority of people will never reach that threshold.

One of the main advantages of Let’s Encrypt over other free options is that you can create wildcard and Subject Alternative Name (SAN) certificates. This means that the same Let’s Encrypt certificate can be used to protect multiple domains and subdomains.

For those with a large number of sites, the ability to generate SANs and wildcards can make SSL certificate management easier. Instead of installing, checking, and renewing a separate certificate for each domain/subdomain, they can manage multiple certificates that apply to all of those domains.

You may have seen wildcard and SAN certificates being sold for hundreds and thousands of dollars. More specifically, these certificates undergo a stricter verification process during which the certification body examines your organisation. Let’s Encrypt only verifies that you have control over the domain.

Moreover, the expensive SSL is part of an online platform that simplifies the installation and management of certificates. With Let’s Encrypt, you’re on your own.

This can be difficult for non-technical people, especially with wildcards and SANs, but it’s certainly not impossible. Thousands of users without a degree in computer science praise Let’s Encrypt. Yes, it takes some time to learn, but it doesn’t cost a dime.

There are many videos and documentaries to help you with this. Let’s Encrypt wants people to use SSL certificates, so the non-profit organization has made it as simple as possible, even if it doesn’t seem like it at first.

Updating certificates is done in the same way. A little exercise with great benefits. Let’s Encrypt uses the Automatic Certificate Management Environment (ACME) protocol to greatly simplify the process of securing your servers.

The goal of ACME is to automate the certificate renewal process without human intervention. This is how it works. There are many ACME client options that are better suited for non-Windows servers.

If your host supports Let’s Encrypt, setting up the ACME software should be fairly simple.

Some hosting companies, like Bluehost, are working with Let’s Encrypt to get the technical side of things out of the way. Bluehost’s AutoSSL tool allows users to enable SSL security once, and certificates that are about to expire are automatically renewed with new Let’s Encrypt certificates.

If you need privacy and security for your website but don’t want to spend money, Let’s Encrypt is the first place to look.

#3 – Cloudflare Review – the best alternative to the freeSSL certificate

For :

  • The simplest form of SSL security that can be implemented
  • Faster loading times of pages

Disadvantages:

  • The free plan does not encrypt the data between your servers and Cloudflare.
  • It is always advisable to purchase a traditional SSL certificate.

Cloudflare is a content delivery network that helps people improve the security and performance of their websites. It’s not a certificate authority like Let’s Encrypt, so it doesn’t issue SSL certificates, but it can help you achieve some of the same goals.

You can start using Cloudflare right away, no matter what platform you’re on. Just register a free account and change your domain name servers to Cloudflare. All traffic to your website is therefore redirected through Cloudflare, where malicious attacks are stopped at their root.

You don’t have to worry about SAN and wildcard certificates because Cloudflare allows you to cover as many domains and subdomains as you want.

Essentially, you are allowing Cloudflare to process all SSL certificates on your servers. Instead of managing your own certificates, Cloudflare acts as a bouncer in your nightclub. No rotten apples coming through the door.

The advantage is that you only have to activate SSL with Cloudflare and don’t have to worry about renewing the certificates. Here’s a breakdown showing the difference between traditional SSL management and implementing it with Cloudflare:

By simply enabling Cloudflare, you can ensure that visitors to your site never receive a warning from Google that your site is not secure.

Is there a downside to having Cloudflare manage SSL security?

If Cloudflare is hacked, you will have problems, but so will Let’s Encrypt or any other service you trust. I wouldn’t worry about it.

The real problem is that Cloudflare does not protect the traffic between your servers and Cloudflare. In the free version, you only encrypt the traffic between Cloudflare and the people trying to visit your website:

Cloudflare’s paid SSL options also allow you to encrypt traffic between your servers and Cloudflare.

If you need full encryption, use Cloudflare and a free SSL certificate from Buypass or Let’s Encrypt.

This way you get full encryption without spending a cent.

So why not choose one of the other free options if Cloudflare offers incomplete encryption?

Because Cloudflare also improves the performance of your website. Finally, it’s a content delivery network, which provides faster page loads and better Google rankings. It also reduces the risk of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, which are very common.

Depending on the specifics of your website, you can let Cloudflare manage all your SSL security. Others may want to use a free SSL certificate in addition to Cloudflare to protect their own servers.

Ultimately, it will improve the performance and security of your website with virtually no effort on your part.

Start using Cloudflare today and see the difference.

#4 – Buypass – The best free 180 day SSL certificates

For :

  • The validity period of SSL certificates is 180 days.
  • Secure multiple domains and subdomains with a single certificate

Disadvantages:

  • Absence of wildcard certificates
  • Some technical knowledge is required for installation

Buypass is a newcomer to the SSL market, but it has built a reputation for reliable and secure solutions. Buypass is supported by all major browsers.

It offers both free SSL certificates – known as Buypass Go SSL – and paid options for those who need to confirm their organization’s legal business status.

Buypass’ biggest advantage is that their SSL certificates are valid for 180 days, compared to 90 days for Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates. This way you don’t have to worry about regularly updating your certificates.

Like Let’s Encrypt, Buypass uses the ACME protocol to automate certificate updates, making the process even easier. The configuration is a bit complicated, but once you have installed the ACME client on your server, the upgrade process is completely automatic.

While Buypass allows you to secure multiple domains and subdomains with one SSL certificate, it does not provide a true wildcard that protects an unlimited number of domains. Let’s Encrypt continues to lead the way.

The rate limits for Buypass are not as generous as Let’s Encrypt, but they are still more than enough for most people. You can create up to 20 certificates per domain per week.

If speed limits aren’t an issue and you don’t need wildcard certificates, Buypass Go SSL is a great free and open option. It has about the same features as Let’s Encrypt, but with twice the validity of the SSL certificate.

Try Buypass today and see why this emerging certificate authority is becoming increasingly popular.

What I was looking for to find the best free SSL certificate

I wanted to find free perpetual SSL certificates. Free tests are fine, but once you become dependent on their services, you have to pay, and sometimes quite expensively.

The options I have chosen will not increase your budget by a penny, ever.

So why pay for an SSL certificate?

The short answer is that only one type of SSL certificate is free and some businesses require other types. My guide to SSL Certificates describes the three types of certificates: domain validated (DV), organization validated (OV) and extension validated (EV).

If you need an OV or EV certificate, sorry, but there is no way to get one for free. Too much work related to the practical exam. In fact, if you see a free OV or EV, it’s definitely a scam you should avoid.

The good news is that a DV certificate will always protect your site and will prevent Google from indicating that your site is not secure.

When it comes to free permanent SSL certificates, you still have some good options. Every company works a little differently. Here are the basic criteria you should use to decide which option is best for your situation.

Restrictions forSSL Certificates

How many free SSL certificates do you need?

If you need one or even more, you can’t go wrong with any of the options on this list. However, if you need a lot, the betting limits are important.

Let’s Encrypt has the highest speed limits (50 certificates per domain per week), which means you can generate most free SSL certificates through their platform. With Buypass, you get less (20 certificates per domain per week), but it’s still a lot.

Cloudflare is another option for those who need to protect a large number of websites. Since it handles all SSL certificates, speed limitations do not matter. Note that this does not protect traffic between your server and Cloudflare, so you can use a combination.

Free SAN and Wildcard SSL Certificates

You no longer need to purchase a separate SSL certificate for each domain and subdomain. A DV certificate usually works for a single domain, but there are special types of SSL certificates that can do more.

Depending on the SSL certificate provider you choose, you may receive :

  • Placeholder: They allow you to use a single SSL certificate to secure an unlimited number of subdomains. For example, I can use a wildcard certificate to secure neilpatel.com, mail.neilpatel.com, support.neilpatel.com, etc.
  • SUN: Subject Alternative Name certificates allow you to use one SSL certificate to secure multiple domain names. For example, I can use a SAN certificate to protect neilpatel.com and npdigital.com. They may also be called Unified Communications Certificates (UCCs).

Let’s Encrypt issues both wildcard and SAN certificates. Buypass issues SSL certificates that can be used for multiple domains and subdomains, but not a true wildcard.

If you only have to worry about one site, it’s not so bad.

But people with a large number of sites and subdomains can use wildcard and SAN certificates to greatly reduce the number of SSL certificates they use. This greatly simplifies the management and updating of certificates.

With Cloudflare, you don’t have to worry about these differences once you’re set up.

Compatible hosting providers

Some hosting providers work with certificate authorities like Let’s Encrypt to make the process of installing an SSL certificate incredibly easy.

Bluehost does this, and activating an SSL certificate through them is a piece of cake. Once you have activated SSL with one click, the certificates themselves are installed and activated.

If you are thinking about Let’s Encrypt or Buypass, make sure the host supports ACME protocols. Otherwise, you can’t automate SSL certificate updates, which means you have to do everything manually.

Sometimes the technology doesn’t fit so well. If you use Let’s Encrypt, for example. B. With GoDaddy’s shared hosting, you will have to take care of the configuration yourself. Switching to Cloudflare or Bluehost can save you a lot of time in this situation.

However, this always depends on the individual case. Therefore, it is helpful to know which options work well with your current provider.

I recommend that you contact your supplier directly as the industry is constantly evolving. What was true for compatibility last year may not be true now, for better or worse.

Renew SSL Certificate

I observe two things here:

  • How often should I renew my SSL certificate?
  • How easy is it to manage the expansion process?

The vast majority of free SSL certificates must be renewed every 90 days. Let’s Encrypt is valid for 90 days, but it is recommended to renew it every 60 days.

Buypass distinguishes itself by offering a free SSL certificate that is valid for 180 days. This means people have to renew it twice a year instead of four times.

If you don’t renew the certificate before it expires, it will no longer protect your site. Potential visitors will see the same security warning as if you had no SSL certificate at all.

If you only have one website with one SSL certificate, it’s not a big deal to renew it every three months. However, if you have many websites, it can be quite difficult to keep up with updates.

Bluehost is a good choice because you can enable the AutoSSL feature, which automates the process of finding and replacing expired certificates.

Let’s Encrypt and Buypass allow you to use the ACME protocol to automate the update process. It takes some time to set up, especially if the technical side of web hosting is not your strong point. However, there are many videos to help with the installation.

Cloudflare takes care of the entire certificate renewal process. Once you sign up for their service, you will benefit from Cloudflare’s SSL certificate management.

As I mentioned earlier, even if you use Cloudflare, it may be useful to use a traditional SSL certificate to protect unencrypted traffic from your servers to Cloudflare.

Supplement

If you have had to search for free SSL certificates in the past, you may be wondering why ZeroSSL and SSLforFree are not on this list. Both companies used to be excellent sources of free SSL, but they have been bought up by new owners who are clearly not so generous.

Many people who take advantage of these options end up paying for them. With the options I described above, you don’t have to worry about that:

  1. Bluehost – the best web hosting with free SSL certificate
  2. Let’s Encrypt – best source for free SSL certificates
  3. Cloudflare – the best alternative to the free SSL certificate
  4. Buypass is the best provider of free SSL certificates for 180 days.

For most people, Let’s Encrypt will help them issue and renew as many SSL certificates as they want, including wildcards and SANs.

Buypass is similar to Let’s Encrypt, but the SSL certificates must be renewed every 180 days instead of every 90 days. This can greatly simplify certificate management, even though Buypass does not offer true wildcards or SAN certificates.

Cloudflare is an alternative to the SSL certificate. Your site will be secure for visitors, but you won’t have the headache of managing certificates. In addition, website performance is improved by Cloudflare’s content delivery network.

However, if you need full encryption, you will need a traditional SSL certificate in addition to Cloudflare.

Ultimately, the best option for free SSL security is to use a mix of these options. By enabling Cloudflare and one of the traditional SSL options, you can take full advantage of these free services without leaving a security hole.

On the web, we rely heavily on security in order to protect personal information and online payments. However, the web’s widespread reliance on outdated encryption also creates vulnerabilities for websites and businesses that are not up to par with the technology of today’s internet. For instance, many free certificates do not offer the necessary encryption rigor to fulfill their roles in the modern web.. Read more about letsencrypt and let us know what you think.
