Everyone’s favorite streaming music service Spotify has announced that it is launching a new feature that will make it easier for artists to play together on-stage. For now, the new feature is only available to some artists currently performing at select concert venues, like London’s Hyde Park and New York’s Radio City Music Hall. The new feature, called “Greenroom”, automatically connects artists with friends and fans who are also at the same show, making it easier to coordinate with them, and setting up live broadcasts for the artists themselves, which Spotify will stream via the Greenroom app. While this is great for artists and concertgoers, it remains to be seen how practical this feature will be for the rest of us.

In a big push to become even more of a “social audio” platform, Spotify, the popular music streaming service, has launched Spotify Greenroom, which is a social audio app that lets you watch live TV and talk with guests in real-time.

Spotify is now competing in the social audio space with the launch of Greenroom, which offers the ability to turn live chats into podcast recordings. While this is a new Spotify product, it’s more of a repeat of an existing application than a product launch from scratch. In March this year, Spotify acquired Betty Labs, which includes sports-focused audio app Locker Room. Using the existing Locker Room code, the app has received a new lick of paint and numerous updates and is now Spotify Greenroom. Those who have already downloaded the Locker Room app will see that it has changed to the Greenroom. What is Spotify Greenroom?

Spotify Gets Into Social Audio With Greenroom With Greenroom, Spotify users can join groups of people around the world and have live audio conversations with them. View More information below Users can join Greenroom with their Spotify credentials. When users first sign up, they go through a registration process that helps the app tailor content to their individual interests. It offers the same basic features as other social audio offerings such as Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces and Facebook Live Audio Rooms. The green rooms can currently accommodate up to 1,000 participants, and this number could increase as the application evolves. The new Spotify app isn’t just another clone of other social audio tools. There are a number of unique selling points that set it apart from the competition.

What’s different about Spotify’s green room?

A key difference between Greenroom and other providers like Spaces and Clubhouse is that the live audio sessions are recorded by Spotify. This allows users to convert their pieces into podcasts that can be listened to on demand at any time via Spotify. With this feature, Greenroom lowers the entry threshold for podcasting to almost zero. All you need is a microphone and a Spotify account, and you’re set. Live audio sessions are not recorded in other applications, so Clubhouse has been embarrassed by moderation issues. Another unique feature is text chat, where users can participate by listening to others’ conversations. This is similar to the streaming system on YouTube and Twitch, where users can chat with each other while watching a live video broadcast. View More information below Spotify is encouraging the use of Greenroom by introducing the Creators Fund, which helps live sound creators get paid for their work. The opening of the Scheppers Fund is planned for this summer. Anyone wishing to register in advance is welcome. Greenroom will evolve as Spotify learns more about how creators and listeners use the app. New programmes on music, culture and entertainment will reportedly be broadcast. More features will be added over the summer. The app is currently available on iOS and Android in 135 markets worldwide. Although the application is available worldwide, it is currently limited to English. The language options will be expanded over time. View More information below Source: Spotify
