If you’re new to the world of blogging, you’ve probably heard of a bunch of different strategies for building links, and you probably hear about “link building” all the time. But do you know what really goes into link building? What you should be doing? And how you can be doing it faster?
There are two things I know for sure about links. #1: that they are the most powerful way to rank a website in Google. #2: that they are the hardest way to build links.
It’s always easy to get traffic to your website, but as you probably know, getting traffic is the easy part. The harder part is making sure you’re in a position to make money from those visitors. This is where links come in, and you have to get them. It’s not easy to generate links, but I’ve got your back. In this guide, I’ll show you how you can get links just like anyone else. I’ll also show you how you can get links that are both good and natural.
Link building sucks.
It takes a lot of time and effort.
But as an SEO professional, you have no choice but to build links…. if you want to rank in Google.
So today I’m announcing a new feature of Ubersuggest that will make link building faster and easier.
So, uh…
What is the easiest way to get links?
What if you could focus your link building efforts only on sites that are likely to link to you?
Sounds good…
Well, you can.
Think of it this way… which sites are most likely to link to you?
In fact, these are the ones that refer to your competitors.
For example, if there are 300 websites linking to 4 of your competitors, but they are not linking to you yet, then reaching those 300 websites should generate a lot of new backlinks for you. After all, if they are willing to refer to your competitor, they generally do not hesitate to refer to you as well.
On the other hand, if there are websites that do not link to you or your competitors, they will probably ignore you and not link to you when you approach them.
So how do you find these easy reference options?
Introducing Ubersuggest backlinking features
I want you to come here first. Then enter your URL and click Search.
Click on Backlink Opportunity on the left side of the navigation.
In this report, place your URL at the top and list some of your most popular competitors. As you can see, I have included Moz and Search Engine Journal.
Make sure that when you add each of your competitors, you click the + button and then click the Search button.
Within seconds, you’ll get a report on who is linking to your competitors, but not to you.
Next, you need to break down each domain to see the exact URL that links to your competitors.
Some links may not work, for example the Google Maps page links to Moz….. unless you have a physical office.
But others, like W3.org, could be a great opportunity.
Wait, that’s better
The example above shows all the links to your competitors, but not to you.
However, this is done at the domain level.
When it comes to link building, it’s easier to get links if you have a similar blog post to your competitors.
For example, let’s say I type the term SEO into Google. That’s what I see on Google.
Moz and Search Engine Land both rank higher than me.
I can take the exact URLs that are above me and put them in the backlink opportunities report.
When you add competing URLs to the Backlink Opportunity report, you must select the URL, not the domain, to see who is linked to a particular URL.
This is important because Moz and Search Engine Land may have articles on topics I don’t cover. But their higher level SEO articles focus on the basics of SEO. And the article I have under them is about the basics of SEO.
That’s why it’s important to see who links to sites above me, because there’s a good chance I can convince one of those sites to link to me.
Sending an e-mail
If you have a list of websites that you want to contact, you’re probably wondering ….. How do you know who to write to, huh?
With Hunter.io, you can find the email address of any website for free.
If you received an email from someone, send them a personalized email.
For example, for people linking to Moz’s beginner’s guide to SEO and Search Engine Land’s beginner’s article, I can send something like this: …..
Hello, John,
You already know that SEO is evolving rapidly, so you wrote an article about new trends in SEO.
But one thing I noticed is that you didn’t talk much about artificial intelligence and how it will affect SEO.
And the Moz and Search Engine Land articles you cite don’t mention it either. Nevertheless, it is one of the most animated topics of the conferences and arouses the curiosity of all.
I have some examples of using artificial intelligence in SEO here [insert link].
If you find it useful, feel free to add it to your website.
I thought it might help your readers.
God bless you,
Neil Patel
PS: By the way, I just shared one of your articles on Twitter….. you can see it here.
My newsletters are very personal. Using generic emails doesn’t work so well for link building.
If I send out 100 emails based on the Backlink Opportunity Report, I aim for at least 15% of the sites to link to me.
Note that I use the report specifically to see who links to similar competing articles that rank higher than me in Google. It’s very specific, but that’s exactly why it works.
Supplement
If you haven’t already, go here and enter your URL. Try the Backlink Opportunity Report and let me know what you think.
Start by seeing who is linking to your competitors and go to those sites one by one to see if they are willing to link to you.
It works… grab 10 sites a day and do it for a month. You’ll see the results.
So what do you think of this new report?
- SEO – Unlocks a large amount of SEO traffic. To see real results.
- Content marketing – our team creates epic content that gets shared, attracting links and traffic.
- Paid media – effective paid strategies with a clear return on investment.
